Missouri Preservation has placed the Cracker House at the top of its Most Endangered Historic Properties list. After an announcement ceremony at the site of the Frank Sommers home (aka Cracker House), Councilmembers Donna Jean Boyer, Barbara LaBass, Byron Myers and Joyce Starr and city manager Bruce Woody hosted a lunch for the Preservation Board members at the J.C.Wyatt House. After lunch, DJ and  Bruce accompanied the Board members on a tour of three historic homes.

A council worksession May 17, 2012 was held at the Wasterwater Treatment Facility. After the session, councilmembers Jeff Penland and DJ Boyer toured the facility. (photos taken with iPad)

Parade line-up Saturday, May 5 was warmer than usual under sunny skies. After some adjustments in the line-up order, moving the Queen and Princesses near the front, we rolled at 9:30 although PJ Kovac had some trouble with his vehicle.

A fly-over by performers at the air show competed only briefly with the tons of candy being tossed by parade participants. Experienced council members had candy left for the people at the end of the parade route but Byron Myers ran out.

MML Legislative Conference 2012

Since registration for the Conference began at 1:30pm, we left St. Joseph around 8 in the morning and stopped at Longhorn's in Jefferson City for lunch before checking into the Capitol Plaza Hotel. After an afternoon of meetings, we relaxed at a reception and talked with our legislators. Later, we hosted Senator Rob Schaff and Representatives Galen Higdon and Pat Conway at Das Stein Haus along with members of their staffs.

The next morning, after hearing Secretary of State Robin Carnahan speak at the capitol building, we had a quick breakfast at the capitol and then returned to St.Joseph.

Great Northwest Day

This year, the annual trip to Jefferson City for Great Northwest Day was a contrast to some in the past. The weather was warm and sunny so we walked from the hotel to the capitol and also around Jeff City without our coats.
The Mardi Gras reception was filled with good food, good music and good friends as we reconnected with folks from other cities and visited with legislators from regions throughout the state.
